Programs to support faculty in terms of their knowledge and understanding
We have developed a working relationship with faculty/staff advisors and department heads. Veteran Student Services often provides seminars and teaching opportunities for faculty/staff specifically about the unique needs of military members and veterans including academic requirements to maintain benefits and works with individual instructors on an as needed base. We are developing a "veteran friendly certificate" program for all faculty/staff and will likely launch the program during the 2012-2013 year.

Policy concerning students who are involuntarily activated for military service
We do not have a temporary assignment policy for reservists, but, we do have an explained absence policy which allows reservists to have official notification to instructors. If reservists notify Veteran Student Services office we also contact instructors on behalf of student-veterans.

Missouri State has a dedicated veteran student services office which serves as a one stop shop for all military/veteran needs including taking full advantage of all educational benefits available as well as assistance with the transition from active duty to student life. We provide a "Veterans Incentive Program" which helps our office serve as advocates for our student-veterans through networks and resources on and off campus. With over 600 veteran students attending classes here in Springfield, and over 150 faculty and staff members who are veterans our campus strives for excellence in service to those who have served.
