Profile
Originally founded as a technical institute in 1965, Owens was fully chartered as a comprehensive community college in 1994. Through its relatively brief history, Owens has experienced such success and explosive growth that its enrollment has more than doubled since 1994 and reached an all-time high of 23,606 in 2009.
Known for its innovative approaches to practical education and more than 130 program areas plus the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, Owens is one of the largest community colleges in Ohio with campuses in Perrysburg Township and Findlay and two free-standing learning centers in downtown Toledo and Maumee. Owens also offers degrees online.
The classroom experience features students from diverse backgrounds who succeed by learning not only from teaching-focused faculty, but also from each other. Away from class, students have the opportunity to get involved with more than 60 clubs and organizations, intramural sports or community service.
The Office of Veterans Services opened in 2011 to provide better care and service for a growing number of veteran students. Staffed by military veteran personnel, the office strives to help veterans transition to student life and find their place at Owens.

Military-wide they preach camaraderie. That’s what instilled in us. … A lot of problems students might have in their personal lives or academically or whatever the case might be, they won’t have to deal with it alone. There’s the club and members to help each other.
