Programs to support faculty in terms of their knowledge and understandingThe University of Michigan-Flint has establisted the Student Veterans Resource Center on campus. The SVRC staff communicate frequently several service and academic areas on campus. The SVRC functions as a central source of communication between the departments for veterans services. Facutly and staff are supported in their efforts to attend training and professional development in the area of veterans services, and bring information back to the university community to share. Participation in webinars, conferences and training is encouraged for all facutly and staff and supported by the university.
Military students called to active service return without penalty policyStudents called to active duty service may return to the University without penalty. If a student is absent for more than one year they may be required to complete a short, one page readmission application. There is no fee associated with this application. If students attended any other colleges or universities while away from UM-Flint, they must arrange for those official transcripts to be sent to the Office of Admissions. Students who are absent as a result of active duty military service will remain under the academic catalog effictive for the program of study at the time of their departure from the University.

Policy concerning students who are involuntarily activated for military serviceThe student must provide the campus Certifying Official with an official copy of the active duty orders. The CO will then council the veteran on their options, which include: 1)speaking with course instructors about allowing the student to complete the course requirements online 2) the student can take incomplete grades, if agreed upon with the course instructor, and complete the course requirements upon return to the University 3) The student will be disenrolled (or drop individual courses) for the semester. The student will not be subject to financial penalties. All debt for the semester is cancelled and if the student’s tuition and fees have been paid, all money is refunded. The campus bookstore has also agreed to work with students called to active duty to assist with getting a fair buyback or refund for their books, depending upon factors to be determined by individual texts.
