For the Competency courses (i.e., ENG 101, 201 and Math, etc.) a grade for acceptable transfer credit is 'C' or better. Graduate students may transfer up to 50%* of graduate level course work via a combination of transfer credit and prior learning credit to be used on a master's degree program**. Military students called to active service return without penalty policyStudents have seven years to complete degree requirements. For example, a student starting the program in Fall 2002 must complete all degree requirements, including IRB and applying for graduation, no later than December 2009. Requests for exceptions beyond seven years are considered on a case-by-case basis and are rarely granted. Requests for an extension will only be considered with the submission of the appropriate paperwork. The Graduate Extension of Time to Complete a Degree Program form (www.cel.cmich.edu/forms/7(fillable).pdf) must be completed in full and signed by the student and the advisor. Carefully review the criteria listed on the form. Military deployment may be considered as an extenuating circumstance and should be documented by a copy of military orders.
Policy concerning students who are involuntarily activated for military serviceCentral Michigan University makes every effort to work with its military students on a case-by case basis to ensure that they have every opportunity to complete courses and continue their education when called to active duty. If they must withdraw from classes, they receive a full refund. “Full refunds shall be made when requested any time prior to the last class session, if the reason for withdrawal is that the student is being sent out of the area by her or his employer and if a copy of TDY (Temporary Duty) orders or a letter from the employer confirming the assignment accompanies the request.” (CMU Off-Campus Bulletin 2010-2011, page 18.)
Why this school is an excellent choice for military membersIn 1971, Central Michigan University began offering programs off-campus to serve the needs of military personnel. Our first locations were at military bases in Michigan. Today we have centers at 22 military bases across the country and serve a large military population with our online courses as well. CMU offers a quality education, a caring environment and reduced tuition to all our military students, their spouses and dependents. Our faculty and administrative staff include many retired military. Over 140 admirals and generals have earned their degrees through CMU’s Off-Campus Programs.
