Programs to support faculty in terms of their knowledge and understandingUSM offers workshops to faculty, such as Military 101, to shed light on the needs of veterans, while dispelling any false stereotypes, etc. The Veterans Services Advisory Council, which is made of faculty, staff, students, and community partners schedule presentations that highlight veterans needs.

Why this school is an excellent choice for military membersThe University of Southern Maine has more than 350 students accessing GI Bill benefits. USM offers ROTC programs and is also a Yellow Ribbon Program school. The Veteran Resource Center, a central meeting and informational spot for veterans, opened in 2009. The military-friendly campus has two active Veteran Student Organizations. USM also has a Veterans Services Advisory Council that meets regularly to improve services and support to veterans. USM has many degree programs to meet the various academic goals of veterans. Portland, a medium-sized city, is also lively and offers multiple cultural and recreational opportunities.
