Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

What Is It?

This program, established for post-Vietnam Era veterans, was designed to encourage enlistments in the all-volunteer military after December 1976. No individuals could enroll in the program after March 31, 1987.

Who Does It Benefit?

To be eligible, participants had to serve more than 180 days and must have received a discharge under conditions other than dishonorable and make contributions to the plan.

How Much Does It Pay?

Contributions were from $25 to $100 a month for a maximum of $2,700. The VA matched contributions at the rate of $2 for every $1 made by the participant. Benefits were to be paid monthly for up to 36 months. If a participant left the program, the contributions would be refunded.
